swiftie no more ~ noot latte

im making this post as much for u guys as for me bc we all need some closure. after reading multiple articles/reddit rabbit-holes, here's some of the *theories* ive gathered. keep in mind no one actually knows.

THEORY #1 ~ Independent Woman Theory

- theory: olivia felt the need to seperate herself from taylor. originally in her career, being a swiftie was her "brand", and now she wants to be known as her own artist. since she received hate for "always bringing up taylor", this theory could make sense.

- quote from an article: "My source says that Olivia was advised to stop acting like a fangirl and start acting like the celebrity she is. This is why you guys don’t see any more praise toward Taylor. Olivia is being primed as an artist and being told to act like a famous celebrity and not a fan."

- thoughts: tbh this theory seems like a bit of a stretch. i think it definitely plays a part, but its not the full story.

Theory #2: Foolish One Theory

- theory: this "feud" is entirely fan-based. although liv may not bring up/mention taylor anymore, it really doesn't mean much. shes being her own artist, and fans are looking for drama. if u feel called out by this, then u are the foolish one.

- thoughts: this makes partial sense, but still i believe there is some real beef. its just too much of a difference to simply have no catalyst. however, the fans r crazy.

Subtheory for Theory #2 ~ Do My Ears Deceive Me?

- theory: continuing off of the fan/more delusional ideas, we have the conspiracies surrounding "nothing new" and "vampire". both are rumored to be about one another, due to the fitting lyrics and circumstances. although nothing new clearly couldn't be about liv (given that it was a vault track), it still raises eyebrows. vampire has a slightly stronger case, considering the recency of the release. however, it is still unlikely, which is why this theory just falls under Foolish One.

- thoughts: i want this theory to be true, but i know deep down, i am the foolish one.

Theory #3 ~ Behind Bars

let me give context:

- theory: this theory is pretty straightforward. in april 2021, olivia mentions in a rolling stone interview that "deja vu" was inspired by "cruel summer".

""I wanted the last bridge to go crazy. I love 'Cruel Summer' that's one of my favourite songs ever. I love the yelly vocals in it, the harmonised yells that she does. They're super electric and moving, so I wanted to do something like that."

- "something like that"...... things between taylor + liv were friendly following this, until in july 2021, when taylor was added to the credits of "deja vu". despite rumors, taylor never sued olivia (perhaps this fallout was more peaceful than i thought). in addition, it is unclear whether taylor's addition was done due to legal threats, or just a peaceful agreement.

^elvis calls out "Billy"

- thoughts: this has always been my leading theory. i assumed that this altercation really pushed liv to become her own artist and stray away from taylor to avoid any other issues. it seems to make the most sense, and i would assume her team was also pressuring her to do the same.

Theory #4 ~ All You Are Is Mean (and a liar and pathetic and alone in life and mean)

- theory: basically the theory is that taylor is a mean girl. which we know is not true, but i am still including this. this theory came about after an interview between alanis morissette and olivia. when asked about dealing with the spotlight, olivia mentions that "there was a lot of bullying and a lot of jealousy and a lot of people whom I’d adored my whole life being mean girls".

the alleged "mean girl" here is taylor, although nothing else seems to make this theory credible. what seems more likely was that this was directed towards courtney love (https://www.popbuzz.com/music/artists/olivia-rodrigo/news/courtney-cox-hole-live-through-this-album-cover/).

- thoughts: i dont support this theory bc it feels far-fetched. it seems much more likely that this was directed towards courtney, as courtney was actually mean to olivia publicly. however, haters gonna hate. (as seen below - reddit is horrible guys)

lmk which theory u guys think is accurate, or tell me ur theories below! another interesting tidbit is the way conan gray is also no longer mentioning taylor .... is this out of loyalty to liv or for a totally different reason? at least it gives 2 extra eras tour ticket openings.
